The Fortune Society has partnered with Yaupon Brothers American Tea Co. to create “Opportuni-Tea,” a refreshing peppermint tea blend for purchase here. Half of the proceeds benefit our mission to support successful reentry from incarceration and promote alternatives to incarceration, thus strengthening the fabric of our communities.
Yaupon Brothers, founded in 2015, partners with non-profits like Fortune to create “Chari-Teas.” These custom, co-designed tea blends represent the mission of the organization while sales of the tea go to support their work. Yaupon approached Fortune because of our aligned commitment to reducing mass incarceration in the United States.
As part of the Chari-Tea process, Fortune was able to engage our staff and stakeholders to create our tailored tea. We held a naming competition with our staff and supporters. We had over 100 submissions of unique tea pun names that highlighted our mission. After careful deliberation, our Board of Directors chose the final winner: Opportuni-Tea. The winners included Fortune staff members Geraldine Denasty and Alisha Bailey, Board Member Betty Rauch, and volunteer Jim Siegal.
Each winner received a free canister of Opportuni-Tea as well as some Fortune swag including a facemask, winter cap or t-shirt. Congratulations to our winners!
Opportuni-Tea is made from organic (tannin-free) Yaupon Holly leaves and peppermint. Each canister includes 12 natural fiber tea satchels. Opportuni-Tea is available for purchase here, and half of all proceeds go to benefit The Fortune Society.
