    Position Summary:

    The Housing Policy and Litigation Counsel will have a deep personal commitment to and professional knowledge of housing policy and litigation, including housing discrimination and other corollary policy issues (employment, education, etc.). The Housing Policy and Litigation Counsel will work specifically on identifying Landlords who discriminate against formerly incarcerated New Yorkers and will pursue legal, and policy actions to combat this discrimination. The Housing Policy and Litigation Counsel will work with Fortune’s participants and other stakeholders, including staff, to test housing discrimination and engage with Fortune’s pro-bono law firms to take on housing discrimination. The Housing Policy and Litigation Counsel will work with the Associate Vice President of Policy and Senior Policy Counsel to develop strategies for addressing housing discrimination and inform the vision and issue priorities annually for DRCPP. The Housing Policy and Litigation Counsel will represent and speak on behalf of the agency in various forums. This role will participate and oversee all research on administrative and policy changes that could remove barriers to housing and employment which are currently preventing formerly incarcerated people from thriving as leaders in the community. The Housing Policy and Litigation Counsel will support in leading the strategy to maintain and expand The Fortune Society’s network of partners engaged in advocacy by conducting critical research, developing strategies, developing and documenting our housing model and building relationships with key players and stakeholders, including policy makers, who can help advance the needs of people directly impacted by the justice system.

    Position Summary:

    Responsible for providing substance abuse and mental health counseling to clients with histories of criminal justice involvement. The role will provide counseling services through Fortune’s OASAS-licensed 822 substance use outpatient clinic, and depending on client volume may also include providing services through Fortune’s OMH-licensed Article-31 mental health outpatient clinic. The position may work with clients in a particular program, such as Fortune Society’s managed transitional housing program. The position may involve some delivery of telehealth services from a home location, and may also involve on-site work at multiple Fortune Society program locations.
