  Fortune Society prevails in lawsuit against Far Rockaway landlord who allegedly refused to rent to people with criminal records

  The Fortune Society in Long Island City announced a precedent-setting settlement of a landmark federal civil rights case allowing advocacy groups to bring lawsuits against private lawsuits against private landlords who impose blanket bans on renting apartments to people with criminal records.

  Thanks to the Bronx Pro Group and United Methodist City Society, a former church site is becoming a residence for formerly homeless seniors and include 57 supportive apartments for those who are justice involved. Fortune looks forward to operating a social services space in the building, which will include counseling, case management, and peer support.
