With your continued support, we were able to serve more individuals in 2023 than ever before!
This past year, we provided over 11,000 participants with the tools, resources and support they needed to lead productive, successful lives.
We saw numerous successes, including the opening of the Fortune Fresh Food Pantry in the Bronx and the passing of the Clean Slate Act into law, and we look forward to another year of providing services and support for our growing community of participants.
Financial contributions are always greatly appreciated and allow us to enhance our services and programs and advocate for systemic change that promotes fair treatment for justice-impacted people. Here are some additional ways you can support Fortune:
Make a Purchase from Our Amazon Wishlist: One of the many ways we support our participants is with care packages for those coming home from incarceration. By making a purchase from our Amazon Wishlist, you will directly provide justice-involved people with high-need items this season, including thermal wear, deodorant, feminine hygiene products and more.
Volunteer Your Time: The Fortune Society’s volunteers make valuable contributions to our work and help provide much-needed support to our growing community! You can get involved by applying for one of our volunteer opportunities. Anyone interested in volunteering can complete our online application or contact our Director of Volunteer Services, Ashley Otto, with any questions at aotto@fortunesociety.org.
Train to Run as a Fortune Flyer: Each year, the Fortune Flyers hit the pavement in the TCS New York City Marathon and run 26.2 miles to support our vital reentry services and promote alternatives to incarceration. As a Fortune Flyer, you are guaranteed entry to the TCS New York City Marathon as you fundraise through your friends, family and networks to strengthen our programming. Applications will be available on our website soon, or you can email development@fortunesociety.org with any questions.
Subscribe to the Fortune Weekly to Never Miss a Policy Update: This year, the David Rothenberg Center for Public Policy advocated for and saw tremendous progress in our legislative priorities. In November, Governor Kathy Hochul signed the Clean Slate Act and enacted it into law, giving millions of justice-involved New Yorkers a second chance. Last week, the City Council passed the Fair Chance for Housing Act, prohibiting landlords and brokers from discriminating based on conviction history. As we approach the new year, and as we update our legislative priorities, we encourage you to subscribe to the Fortune Weekly to stay up to date with our continuing advocacy efforts in 2024.
Follow Us on social media: If you aren’t yet, be sure to follow us on social media to stay current with what’s going on in the Fortune community! We share policy updates, upcoming events and other important Fortune news. Connect with us!
Join Us at Upcoming Events in 2024: This year, our community of participants and supporters celebrated the power of healing through the arts at our Annual Arts Festival at Socrates Sculpture Park, partied on the block outside of our Castle Gardens residence at the Annual Victor Rojas Block Party and cheered on the Fortune Flyers at the NYC TCS Marathon. We can’t wait to bring our community together throughout 2024 at events like this, and we encourage you to join us!
