Every Saturday in May, Creative Time, The Fortune Society and artist Phil Collins (not that Phil Collins) have turned the iconic decommissioned firehouse in Tribeca into a school and dance hall for a project aimed at turning an “unconventional lens on the prison industrial complex.” This Saturday is your last chance to participate in the event, called Bring Down The Walls, with a 24-hour mixture of seminars, discussions, and a dance party.
Saturday’s theme encourages us to envision a society without prisons, with the Bronx Freedom Fund, which helps New Yorkers accused of misdemeanors make bail, Common Justice, a group that pinpoints solutions beyond incarceration, and Rise and Resist, which engages in direct action to uphold the values of democracy, equality, and civil rights. More information on that programming, which begins at noon, here.
