
In celebration of Second Chance Month, The Fortune Society highlights the significance of ongoing support through our mission every day. Participants at Fortune have the opportunity to grow and change, benefiting from a robust network of resources that guide them toward personal success.
Ricardo, a former participant and current Case Manager in Employment Services (ES), received continued support and access to resources that have helped him thrive.
Before connecting with Fortune in July 2025, Ricardo struggled to find employment that effectively utilized his skills. Despite having a solid professional background in logistics and administrative work, he was primarily encouraged to apply for positions in food service and building maintenance. Ricardo sought work that would better showcase his professional abilities.
Upon joining Fortune, Ricardo gained access to a network of resources that further cultivated his professional skills. He participated in the ES three-week career readiness workshop, where he tailored his resume, practiced interview skills, and received constructive feedback to prepare for the workforce. The opportunities and support he found at Fortune opened doors to significant professional success.
“As soon as I arrived, I could feel that people wanted to assist me right away,” Ricardo explained. “When I shared my situation with a facilitator, he was eager to help. I also worked with an Employment Specialist who paid attention to my certifications and background. He was ready to help me find work, but then I faced an unexpected challenge. During the workshop, I was referred to the Bloomberg Fellowship.”
The Bloomberg Fellowship provided Ricardo with the opportunity to further develop the skills he gained through Fortune’s career readiness workshop. Applying those skills in a corporate environment allowed him to enhance his administrative expertise while remaining in a supportive setting that fostered continuous learning.
Each of these professional opportunities acted as a building block, enabling Ricardo to join ES as a Case Manager. In his current role, he continues to rely on the support he receives from his peers within the Fortune community. Ricardo is thankful for the ongoing assistance he has experienced since connecting with Fortune last year.
As a staff member, Ricardo is committed to offering the same support he received during his time as a participant. He views his role as an opportunity to be a role model and an example of success.
