Finding Community with Women Rising

Finding Community with Women Rising

11/19/2025

Brittany joined the Women Rising program last year in search of opportunities to support her healing, and since connecting with the program, she has seen tremendous personal growth. The Women Rising program provided her with valuable resources and a vibrant community of women who serve as both peers and role models, laying the foundation for her journey.

Women Rising provides specialized support for women in the Fortune community, extending across family, employment, and behavioral health services. Women in the program can also access the JoAnne Page Women’s Lounge, a safe space where women can gather, featuring comfortable seating and books from the Liberation Library. Women Rising also offers many resources for mothers, including parenting workshops, groups, and family reunification services.

Brittany shared that the family services and parenting resources were particularly valuable. She expressed gratitude for the guidance she received in developing effective parenting strategies. The program’s workshops and support groups provided her with practical tools and helped her gain confidence in her parenting.

“We don’t get books on how to be a good parent,” Brittany said. “We must work through our mental health issues, and our physical health, to be able to do what is best for our children. It’s about making the right choices for us and for our children.”

Brittany has two children, aged 13 and 10, and the parenting classes have offered her valuable insight to help support their growth. Notably, Brittany mentioned the importance of understanding her trauma to ensure she doesn’t negatively impact her children. She has learned skills in emotional regulation and monitoring her triggers, both from the classes themselves and by speaking with other mothers in the program.

As an artist, Brittany often turns to writing and music to relieve painful memories and emotions. Having both a supportive community and positive creative outlets, she has found healthy ways to process her experiences and express herself. These creative pursuits allow her to inspire others facing similar struggles.

“I’ve been a victim of triggers and trauma from my childhood, but it’s how you carry it and push yourself through the storm,” Brittany shared. “You have your kids, and you want them to look back at their parents and have great memories of their upbringings, not any trauma.”

Through Women Rising, Brittany enjoyed connecting with other women who shared similar experiencesShe gained a supportive community that she can turn to for guidance and friendship, including the other mothers in the program.

“From the other wonderful mothers, I learned patience, because you need that with children,” Brittany said. “We talked about coparenting, as well, because what matters most is the child and putting them first. I learned so much from the parenting classes.”

Women Rising has been instrumental in Brittany’s journey at Fortune. Through the program, Brittany found a supportive community of women and mothers who she deeply admires and who have helped guide her throughout her time at the organization. With this strong support system, Brittany can more clearly see her future and the steps she must take to get there.
