The Fortune Society Hosts Community Food Distribution

Millions of Americans are facing a devastating loss as the U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to suspend SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits for over 42 million people starting in November – an abrupt and total cutoff that threatens to unleash a wave of hunger and hardship across communities not seen in decades. With this looming cutoff, The Fortune Society hosted a community food distribution event on October 31 to provide essential food assistance to Long Island City residents and bring urgent attention to the deepening crisis of food insecurity.
