The Fortune Society Statement on Passing of Second NYPD Officer

The Fortune Society issued the following statement today in the aftermath of a second Police Officer with the New York City Police Department passing away after being shot in the Bronx last week:

“The Fortune Society extends our condolences to the NYPD and the families of Officers Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora. Both died while doing the jobs they loved. Officer Mora’s passing brings more sadness upon our city and we join all New Yorkers in mourning their loss. Violence and its resulting trauma is a public health and safety issue that has a deep and long-lasting impact on the lives of too many New Yorkers, especially in neighborhoods hardest hit. The Fortune Society stands ready to partner with NYPD and other City agencies to improve community safety and reduce violence by providing mental health and behavioral health services, access to employment, education, supportive housing, and a host of other resources to people impacted by the criminal legal system. Fortune will honor those brave Officers by being part of the solution.”
