Spring/Summer 2023 Socrates Happenings!

Socrates Sculpture Park is kicking off their 2023 spring & summer season!

Since 1986, Socrates Sculpture Park has been the place where art intertwines with life. There’s so many ways to enjoy the Park for FREE join them for their Spring and Summer season!

At Socrates, dance the summer away, Oaxaca-style, at Guelaguetza and experience the opera outdoors. Wind down with a meditation or yoga class, pick up local peaches and honey from Hellgate Farmstand. Learn how to read tree rings and create wearable art from scobi. Kayak at Hallet’s Cove Beach, the edge where the East River meets land, the same space that artist Mary Mattingly explores in upcoming exhibition, Mary Mattingly: Ebb of a Spring Tide.

  • Sunset Meditation (sponsored in part by the Pema Chödron Foundation), May 2 – August 29, Tuesdays, 7-8pm
  • Yoga, May 6 – October 15, Saturdays, 9:30am & 11am; Sundays, 10am
  • Kayaking at Hallet’s Cove, May 13 – September 16, Saturdays, 12-5pm

HELLGATE FARMSTAND: June 10 – November 18, Saturdays | 10am – 2pm. Every Saturday at Socrates in the spring, summer, fall, Hellgate Farm offers fresh seasonal local produce and small batch goods, like their signature hot sauce. Vendors also include Wilk Apiaries and Astoria-based Benchflour Bakers. Additional farm vendors will rotate vending throughout the season, with a focus on providing organic and locally produced vegetables, fruits, and other products.

FIELD GUIDE: April 23 – September 23, Saturdays | 11am – 1pm. Explore Socrates’ unique environment with a series of experimental workshops that combine art making with natural materials, gardening, experiments in sustainability, that celebrate the senses. All ages are welcome, Free with registration.

OPENING CELEBRATION – Mary Mattingly: Ebb of a Spring Tide, May 20 | 12 – 5pm. Celebrate the opening day of Mary Mattingly: Ebb of a Spring Tide with music and seasonal and local culinary offerings at the Park. The event is free, no reservations are required.
