Prison Reform and Beyond Incarceration

At a virtual event with the New York City Bar, The Fortune Society’s President & CEO JoAnne Page discusses how the issues of re-entry into society after jail or prison are deeply connected to the reform of police departments and other calls for criminal justice reform, on both a value-based but also on a strategic level.  She describes the challenges that people reentering the community after incarceration face in an environment of increasing need and diminishing resources during the COVID pandemic that is hitting hardest the low income communities of color that disproportionately bear the burden of crime and of the criminal justice system. She also speaks about the importance of supporting change within jails and prison, and the current opportunities for system change.
