JoAnne Page discusses the future of the city’s criminal justice system

After 34 years of serving as president and CEO of the Fortune Society, JoAnne Page announced she’s retiring at the end of the year.

Founded in 1967, the Fortune Society is dedicated to advocating for and assisting those who are incarcerated or formerly incarcerated and helping them create a better life for themselves.

During her tenure, Page helped transform the organization, helping increase the size of the Fortune Society from a staff of 20 members, to a staff of more than 500.

The annual budget has skyrocketed from $700,000 to more than $60,000,000.

She’s also helped create a variety of substance abuse and mental health treatment programs, along with expanding alternative to incarceration programs.

JoAnne Page joined Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Thursday night to talk more about her long career as CEO of the Fortune Society, what comes next for the city’s criminal justice system and Rikers Island.
