(March 1, 2022 – New York, NY) – Rob DeLeon, Senior Vice President of The Fortune Society (Fortune), issued the following statement today as the Less is More Act goes into effect.
“Today marks the day that the historic Less is More Act goes into effect. The Fortune Society is proud to have stood with the advocates who worked tirelessly to ensure this legislation was passed, and we applaud Governor Hochul for signing it into law last year. For over 54 years, Fortune has worked with people on parole supervision. We have seen firsthand how true individual progress and growth can be derailed when someone is incarcerated for a technical violation such as missing curfew, which has no impact on public safety. We are committed to working with the people we serve and other stakeholders, to ensure Less is More is implemented with fidelity, to bring much needed and long overdue procedural justice, due process, and transparency to the parole process for New Yorkers.”
