[Formerly Incarcerated Individuals] Ready to Vote in Coming New York Primary

In April, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he would use executive powers to allow people on parole to vote, adding New York to a group of more than a dozen states in which formerly incarcerated people have that right. 

The move has created a new group of voters in New York state, at least some of whom are taking their right seriously. The Fortune Society, a New York City-based criminal-justice nonprofit, said it had registered 350 people with criminal histories to vote, 230 of whom are on parole.

Last week in Queens, at the Fortune Society headquarters, about 100 [formerly incarcerated individuals] gathered to meet gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon, a Democrat.
