City Watch – Crisis on Rikers

The October 3, 2021 episode of City Watch, hosted by David Brand, featured discussions about health care and working conditions among home health aides; the history and development of salt marshes; and, the unfolding crisis at Rikers.

• City Limits and Report for America journalist Liz Donovan discussed her New York Times report on the United States’ home health care industry and the working conditions and labor protections for home health aides. –
• Dr. Eric Sanderson, senior ecologist at the Wildlife Conservation Society discussed his recent Times essay “Let Water Go Where It Wants to Go” detailing New York City’s history of development on salt marshes, wetlands, streams and ponds. –
• JoAnne Page, President and CEO of The Fortune Society, discussed the unfolding crisis on Rikers Island and her organization’s work providing housing and services for people leaving jails and prisons.
