Castle III’s Façade Progresses at 107 East 123rd Street in East Harlem, Manhattan

Exterior work is moving along on Castle III, a 15-story supportive housing project in East Harlem, Manhattan. Designed by Curtis + Ginsberg Architects and developed by The Fortune Society, the structure will yield 82 units for formerly incarcerated and justice-involved individuals. The project will also feature a ground-floor teaching kitchen for nutritional cooking demonstrations and free produce distribution for the local community. The property is located between Lexington and Park Avenues.

The brick façade is already in place across the majority of the main southern elevation, with only the second story and final floor left to enclose. Crews are currently performing the bricklaying from hanging scaffolding rigs on the upper levels. The grid of windows is in place, though installation of the surrounding black paneling has yet to commence. The ground floor remains obscured by the sidewalk shed.

Work is further behind on the rear northern elevation, where the CMU blocks remain fully exposed. The below image also offers a better look at the metal framework atop the roof, which will support the property’s photovoltaic array.

Crews are also in the process of painting the blank western wall a dark shade of gray.

The rendering in the main photo focuses on Castle III’s lower levels, previewing the look of the entrance, planting beds, and metal paneling that will eventually surround the windows.

The below rendering shows the upper levels of the southern elevation clad in gray and purple paneling above the main setback, with the sloped solar canopy covering the bulkhead.

The final rendering depicts the rear northern elevation from the perspective of the elevated 125th Street Metro-North station. This face will feature a white and gray envelope, and the blank western elevation is shown with contrasting brown accent wall. A small courtyard is also visible at street level.

Amenities will include a communal laundry room and a below-grade office and meeting space. Castle III will be all-electric and designed to Passive House standards.

The conference rooms will be available for community meetings by sister organizations, neighboring tenant organizations, and the Community Board. Community events may include theater, music, and other arts activities, as well as the Fortune Society-sponsored community block party, a signature event at their West Harlem location.

The nearest subways from the development are the 4, 5, and 6 trains at the 125th Street station along Lexington Avenue.

Castle III at 107 East 123rd Street is anticipated to complete construction in May 2026, as noted on site.
