Fortune’s Admissions Unit Serves As Agency’s Vanguard For Incoming Clients

Sunday, December 6, 2015

The Fortune Society’s Admissions Unit plays a vital and essential role within the agency.

We serve as the agency’s vanguards, and are the first individuals who make contact with each client who arrives. It is our responsibility to make our clients feel safe and welcome, and to capture relevant information used in order to provide the best services we offer.

We meet each client, and sit down with them one-on-one to assess their current needs, wants, goals, and aspirations. Sometimes clients may know what they want, but they are not completely sure how to obtain it. Therefore, we listen and allow them to share their stories. For some clients, it can be very difficult to describe what they’ve been through and what they’re going through now.

I truly believe that being able to identify with some of our clients and to reassure them that they are in a safe environment is hugely important to our clients. Moreover, offering our clients guidance and direction, and helping them identify options and opportunities is sometimes all the validation they need.

I am personally very passionate about my work, and I truly feel that my team feels the same. I’ve made sure that, throughout all my years at The Fortune Society, our clients come first and that our job is to make sure they are treated the same way we would want ourselves or a family member to be treated — with dignity and respect.

I also feel that I embody the Fortune mission and that my job assisting individuals who are coming home or who have been through the criminal justice system will never be complete. This is an ongoing journey for me and I am proud to say that the people in Fortune’s Admissions Unit believe in our mission and are passionate about what we do.

We are motivated by believing in the power of individuals to change.  Because we care.
