Proving That All Our Stories Matter

The Fortune Society opened its Media Workshop in 2009 motivated by the conviction that all our stories matter and that we all matter to our unfolding shared communal history. We are all called upon to be shareholders in the enterprise of building an inclusive society.

Fortune’s Media Workshop engages a community of multi-generational participants, bringing them into projects that span from a full-blown documentary to a shorter Public Service Announcement (PSA) commissioned by the New York Probation Department. Each one of our projects provides participants the opportunity to learn about camera work, lighting, audio capture, and editing with industry-standard software.

We are fully invested in providing our participants access to the necessary tools for quality multimedia production, but our emphasis is on the power of storytelling as a vehicle for self-discovery and social participation. We do this by connecting our multimedia work to our general education classes where students have the opportunity to document their learning experience and to participate in our projects as actors and/or technicians.
