Through our Rikers Island Discharge Enhancement (R.I.D.E.) program, we assist men sentenced to incarceration in New York City jails to transition back into the community.

Fortune’s dedicated R.I.D.E. team engages recently-incarcerated men at Rikers Island Jail. Our first step is to assess and address the needs that will support their immediate stabilization upon release.  This process includes securing identification and essential benefits such as Medicaid, food stamps, birth certificates, and social security cards.

Next, we work together to develop a post-release plan that addresses housing, employment, substance abuse treatment, and other needs. We also offer workshops and classes at Rikers Island Jail that give participants the opportunity to develop important life skills, improve their education, and prepare to enter a competitive job market upon release.

On the day R.I.D.E. clients are released, we provide transportation from Rikers Island Jail.  We continue to support their successful reentry from there through Fortune’s comprehensive service offering and, when appropriate, by connecting them to other services in the community.
