Eliza is running in support of Fortune in the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon! As someone who grew up living quite an active lifestyle, she is excited to take on the challenge of running her first marathon as a Fortune Flyer.
Eliza first learned about Fortune through her coworker, Andrea, who also happens to be one of our volunteer marathon coaches. When Eliza expressed interest in running the marathon this year, Andrea connected her with the Fortune Flyers team. She is excited to run for an organization that supports vulnerable members of the population through the reentry process.
Before her training, Eliza would not have considered herself a serious runner; at most, she typically ran for a few minutes as a warm-up at the gym. Now, she enjoys spending her evenings after work on long-distance runs to unwind.
“I find that I completely zone out and it’s such a nice way of relaxing… and spending time with yourself, thinking or not thinking. It’s whatever you need, and you always feel much more relaxed after,” Eliza explained.
Eliza has also enjoyed challenging herself throughout the past several weeks of her training, and she continues to impress herself with what she is capable of. She runs five or six days a week and carves out time to work out at the gym, as well. She has remained dedicated to building her strength and endurance.
On Marathon Day, she is excited to finally see her hard work pay off. She set a goal to finish the race in under four hours, but more than anything she is looking forward to embracing the experience and running for an important cause.
“I’m wanting to go into it with no expectations. I want… to have fun, and I know that people say the NYC marathon is great for the vibes, so I want to take that in,” Eliza said. “If I see my friends on the sideline, I will totally go take a selfie and if that costs me a few minutes I will definitely be okay with it.”
Thank you, Eliza, for your commitment to The Fortune Society! We are excited to cheer for you on November 5!
