June is Gun Violence Awareness Month

Friday, May 23, 2014

The New York City Gun Violence Task Force is hosting a Gun Violence Awareness Month (GVAM) kickoff, the Not In My Hood March and Resource & Health Fair on May 31, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The 4TH Annual “Not in My Hood” March and Resource & Health Fair held in conjunction with Council Member Jumaane D. Williams, will be used to give our respective communities an opportunity to speak out against the senseless violence that occurs in Central Brooklyn neighborhoods- particularly among vulnerable youth. Please join Grand Marshall, Gama Droville, an innocent 13 year old boy who was caught in a violent crossfire as he walked along Flatbush Avenue and turned his experience into an inspiration for us all.

The march will begin at the Flatbush Garden Apartments (Foster Avenue between New York Avenue & Brooklyn Avenue) and will end at Meyer Levin (Ralph Avenue between Tilden Avenue and Beverley Road) with a variety of educational, employment and afterschool/summer activities opportunities for youth, as well as a health fair.
