Fortune President & CEO, JoAnne Page Speaks on Latest Mayoral Move

Friday, March 7, 2014

Yesterday, Mayor de Blasio announced that he was ending the Previous Administration’s Challenge to Local Law 71 That Prohibits ‘Bias-Based’ Profiling in Law Enforcement.  JoAnne Page, President & CEO of the Fortune Society said, “We applaud today’s action by the De Blasio administration.   For too long, racial profiling has driven a wedge between the NYPD and the communities they serve.  Only when people of color – young and old – feel safe going to an officer for help can we begin to solve the problems of guns and violence that are killing and injuring so many young people in our city. It gives all of our communities a real chance to move forward with the NYPD and create a truly effective partnership that will make our city safer.”
