Advocacy & Resources
Since 1967, The Fortune Society has worked to transform the landscape of the criminal justice system by developing model programs for men and women coming home from prison that meet both their immediate and longer-term needs. We also recognized early on that systemic criminal justice change cannot occur without the voices and opinions of those who have first-hand experience with current policies. Fortune’s model programs are informed by the opinions and ideas of formerly incarcerated people. This strategy has been met with great success: we have been recognized nationally for the development of the Fortune Academy and are often called on by local and national media to represent the interests of the men and women we serve.
As Fortune enters our fourth decade, we recognize that our national reputation and history of successful advocacy efforts have positioned us to make an even greater impact on criminal justice reform. To that end we’ve launched the David Rothenberg Center, named for our founder, to coordinate our technical assistance, policy development and community education efforts. These initiatives work towards our mission to change minds through education and advocacy.
