Counseling

Our Counseling Services Unit was the first service area developed by Fortune in 1967 and – as the initial point of entry for the majority of our clients - it remains the core of our agency today. We pride ourselves on being able to serve every formerly incarcerated individual who comes to us for assistance; our dedicated and highly skilled counseling staff makes this possible.

Clients come to The Fortune Society with varying and complex needs. Based upon information attained during their initial intake interview, our counselors provide clients with crisis intervention services (such as securing food, shelter and clothing), conduct needs assessments, facilitate one-on-one and group counseling and make referrals to appropriate programs – both inside and outside the agency.

In 2005, the Counseling Services Unit provided these critical services to 1,531 clients and made 1,813 referrals for additional services.
